2026 National Postdoctoral Fellowship (NPF)
National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST), Republic of Korea
Announced: August 24, 2026

Overview
The National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST) announced today that it will launch the 2026 National Postdoctoral Fellowship (NPF), a program designed to identify and cultivate outstanding early-career researchers in national strategic technology fields.
The NPF enables postdoctoral researchers to build independent research experience using the facilities and infrastructure of Korea's government-funded research institutes, with the goal of developing them into globally competitive scientists. Beyond research funding, the program provides integrated support for international exchange, competency building, and career development.
Scale of Support
NST will invest a total of KRW 7.6 billion (approx. USD 5.5 million) this year to select approximately 38 postdoctoral researchers.
Eligibility
- Researchers within 7 years of receiving a doctoral degree in science or engineering
- Candidates expecting to receive their doctoral degree within 3 months may also apply
- Applicants must be able to participate in the program for at least one year

Beyond Research Funding
The NPF is structured around a four-part support system — research performance, competency building, global exchange, and career development — allowing fellows to lead their own research agenda while drawing on the infrastructure of government-funded research institutes.
The program includes:
- Customized training programs covering core and specialized competencies by research role, as well as career development
- Communities of Practice (CoP) to support creative, high-risk R&D planning and strengthen research capabilities
- Competitions to share outstanding research outcomes, and networking programs among fellows
How to Apply
Recruitment is administered by NST on an integrated basis, reflecting the personnel needs of each government-funded research institute.
Starting August 25, 2026, applicants may review the recruitment fields, working conditions, required documents, and application procedures on the NST Integrated Recruitment website and on the websites of the individual research institutes.
